Teacher Resources

Teacher Created is a great teacher website.  They have lots of resources available for purchase, as well as many free resources.  Some things I found on this website are:
  • math worksheet
  • free lessons
  • free reading activities.
Science Buddies  is also a great resource for teachers.  Some of the things I found on this site include:
  • A guide for planning a science fair
  • Science project ideas
  • Printable handouts and worksheets
PBS  is another great teacher resource.  Some things I found on this site include:
  • A dinosaur computer game that teaches counting
  • An interactive alphabet game
  • A lesson plan that teaches about different fruits and how to spell their names

#6: Flickr fun, mashups, and 3rd party sites

I think the Flickr Color Pickr is so awesome!  When I clicked on the link I didn't really understand what I was about to see but it is such a great idea!  This makes it so easy to find pictures that are okay to use copyright wise and also match whatever color theme you are going with.  SO COOL!  Here are some of the pretty pictures I found.

#19: Library Thing

After looking at the Library Thing website, I feel pretty bad about myself.  I sat there and had the hardest time thinking of books I have read and then when I finally did compose a list, I realized most of those books are also movies.  I am definitely not a hardcore reader.  Some books on my list include: Harry Potter, Twilight, Dear John, and The Notebook. These books are all extremely popular but I feel like they dont really count as real reading because they are all such popular movies.

Technology in Education

Technology can be extremely useful in the classroom.  For example, in early elementary classrooms, computer reading tests can give teachers a better idea of exactly where each child is at in their reading abilities.  Online STAR reading tests adjust the difficulty level of the questions based on how the student is performing.  This creates a custom test for each child.  If the students were limited to a paper test, all students would be tested on the exact same materials and the teacher might not get a complete understanding of how much some children are excelling or how behind they are.  Computer testing is one way that technology improves the educational experience.
